Guest Room Update

Last fall we switched our daughter's room and the guest room around. It took me forever to get things to what I consider pretty well finished in the room and even longer to get the whole thing actually cleaned all at one time. :) Despite that, the results are great and I'm so excited to finally be able to show them off.

The bed is pushed up next to the wall just inside the door. I did this because we don't have guests super often and I wanted to make plenty of space for the office portion of the room. The dark gray stripe on the wall was yellow when our daughter used this room. I opted to paint it a dark glossy gray to keep the wall color fairly neutral.

I used a small folding plant stand for a side table as there isn't much room between the bed and the doorway.

I love me a good artwork wall for a focal point. I had all the pieces on this wall already.

This shelf was in the room when it was Maddy's. I decided to leave it because it works so well in the space. (For those wondering, yes, I did take it down to repaint the stripe even though I was very tempted to be lazy!)

Here's the desk and work space. I'm pretty pleased with how this desk looks in the space. This was the desk in my office uptown previously. It fits really nicely in here.

I found the chair at a local thrift store. It's just the right size for the space, and it swivels. It must have been repainted by someone at some point, but they did a nice job. It's very light gray in color.

One of my biggest feats was probably reorganizing the closet! My Hubby cut an extra piece of closet shelf we had lying around and it helped immensely with the storage issues.

Another piece of furniture formerly from my office. It displays things pretty nicely along with the bookcases made from crates I snagged long ago at a garage sale.

That's pretty much the 360 degree tour of our guest room/office. I just hope I can keep it clean enough to actually work in here on a regular basis. Now, I'm off to drink some tea and edit future posts. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Coral Madness Project # 3

There will be several Coral Madness Projects coming this week. I'm really pushing to get some of these things done. I would like to finally finish the guest bedroom and move on to the living room.

I've actually had this project done for a long time, I just haven't shared it yet. I bought some bookshelves that were made out of old wooden crates from a friend's garage sale. They had been painted white at some point, but the paint was yellowed and dingy. Before:

Yucky! I spray painted the outside with Heirloom White, but the insides of these babies got color.

I'm not completely satisfied with the styling of these yet, but I've got a good start. I do need these to function as actual bookshelves as well as be cute (I have an addiction to paperbacks that must be stored somewhere). Most of the items I already had with the exception of the two chevron baskets, which I bought at Dollar General for $10.00.

Coral Madness Project #2

I'm trying to force myself to finish all the million little bits of my guest bedroom that I started doing a million years ago. One of the things on the list includes two end tables. So, I bring you Coral Madness Project #2 (see Coral Madness #1 here, or other projects for the room here and here.)

The first table is one of those 70's not really wood but not really plastic end tables. I liked this particular one because I hadn't run into one on a pedestal before. Here's the before:

Here's the after:

The color in that pic is a little washed out, It's a little darker than that. I think I used Dark Gray gloss from Rustoleum spray paint. Here's a closeup of the side:

Here's the bottom:

I'm thinking about doing a coral chevron pattern on the top. Or at the very least painting the medallions on the door with coral.

Table number 2 was a straight blond end table:

Yes, that before picture was taken in the fall and no, I did not get to this project until spring. I wanted to try putting paper on the top similar to this idea I saw on Pinterest.

Here's how it ended up:

The paper is not quite as distressed as I would like it. When I tried to sand it, the colors started to bleed and I didn't care for that. I'm still pretty pleased with the overall effect.

Here it is in its new home:

I'm loving this room more and more as it comes together!

Coral Madness Project # 1

I've been working on several projects for the guest bedroom. One of those projects is recovering a $5 chair I got at the thrift store. Here's a sort of before (I got excited and started painting!):

Obviously, I spray painted the arms and legs grey. Then I dry brushed white paint over all the wood:

I love this look! Then it was time to reupholster the chair. I decided it needed some extra cushioning on the seat:

Then I got out my staple gun and fabric and went to town. Here's the finished result:

The back piece is tacked on with upholstery nails.

Here's what the arms look like up close:

I love the result. You can see in the background of some of this pictures that I am working on the guest room. I have curtains up and book shelves in. I will be sharing more pieces of the room soon. I've barely put a dent in the fabric I ordered for this project. I am considering making a floor poof out of the leftovers.

I can't wait to share the rest of my guest room makeover!

It's begun! (Coral Madness)

I've officially taken steps to begin taming the coral madness I've recently acquired. I ordered these pieces of fabric and trim online:

And I started painting this chair I'm planning on recovering with said fabric:

I've also figured out how to mix fabric dye to get a nice coral color that I am planning on dying white curtains I bought at a garage sale.

I also bought a mirror and a ceramic pheasant I'm planning on spray painting. I'm getting excited for this transformation!
