Antique Turned Wine Cabinet

I have had this antique sheet music cabinet for a long time.

I've used it for various kinds of storage over the years, but I've always wanted to revamp it somehow. I finally settled on the great idea of turning it into a wine bar/storage area. The first thing I did was pull off the back which was warped and rotten. Then I pulled out a few of the shelves to make room for some wine glass holders. I had to put a new back on. I chose to paint some bead board with a pop of color. Here's the result:

It works out great. I especially like how well it fits in this little space in the kitchen. I also like how nice it looks with this pallet wine rack my brother and sister in law gave us for Christmas.

What do you think? I think I love it. I also think I need a glass of wine to celebrate.

Outdoor Bar Cart

I'm still cleaning like a mad woman for the company coming tomorrow. This one is the biggest and most exciting I've been working on for the occasion.

I got a cart on wheels at an auction a long, long time ago that was just waiting for some love. The sides are brass. The top, back and bottom shelf are all press board. I thought the brass would look nice with coral paint, and I was right! I didn't take any in progress pics, but here's the finished project:

I ran out of coral spray paint (only bought one can and that press board sure soaked it up!).So I decided to pair it with a gray stripe on the bottom.

I added a brass wine glass rail I found on Amazon to hold my plastic (outdoor) wine glasses.

I thought the brass ice bucket and glass decanters finish the look quite nicely. I'll have to take a picture of it all decked out this weekend for the party.

I'd almost forgotten I had the coral martini shaker until I was digging for bar accessories. It matches so well!
This project took a little longer than some of the other spruce up ones, but all in all, I think the effect was worth it.

Don't settle for dull, live a refinished life!

Rake Wine Glass Holder

I've been seeing this everywhere on Pinterest and in the blogosphere. Taking this:

and making it into this:

Here's a few tips for making your own. First, figure out how you're going to hang it. My rake head was pretty bent, so if I wanted to put the nail in the middle of the handle on top, I had to bend it. Remember that this will get pretty heavy with glasses on it, so either make sure you hit a stud, or put an anchor in the wall. I actually ended up putting three nails in, two in studs on either end and one in the middle. Before you put glasses on it, it's best to seal it in some way. You could either spray paint it a fun color, or leave it rusty (like I did) and just spray it with a matte clear spray paint.

Now you have a fun, fairly inexpensive way to display your wine glasses. You can make a bar anywhere in your house, just by hanging one of these on the wall above a buffet, countertop or table.

I had the perfect spot for it in my kitchen. I had this music cabinet in this weird corner already and it seemed like the perfect spot for a wine bar.
