Barn Wood Accent Wall

Let me just start this post by saying I have the best parents ever. They recently stayed with us so they could go to grandparents’ day at school for Maddy. After they attended that, they put up this barn wood accent wall all while hubby and I were gone. I came home to this:

They even did this fabulous trim around the doorway to the hall.

The only thing I had to do was put back the furniture and artwork on the wall. I did end up rearranging some of the artwork here and there.

I’m so happy with how well this turned out. I must be the luckiest girl in the world.

Pinspiration: Wax Paper Printing

I am now addicted to this new method of making signs! Let me start at the beginning. I saw this pin:

I decided to try the method for making signs.

The tutorial is quite detailed, so I won't rehash it all here. I will say it's a bit tricky to get the wax paper through the printer, or at least it was my particular printer. Ultimately, in order to get it to work I had to tape the wax paper to a piece of regular printer paper.

It took a lot of patience, but here's how they turned out:

I especially love how the anchor one turned out.

Even though the method requires some patience (and sometimes swearing) I love the results. I've made a total of four signs now and I can't see to stop! Have any of you tried this method?

Blast from the Past #1

I have too many works in progress that I can't really show right now. Boo! But, that doesn't mean I can't show you some projects I've done in the past, but never shared before. I have a lot of those projects at my office.

For this first edition of Blast from the Past, I want to show off a little piece I did for my office bathroom. I got this cabinet for free. It had already been stripped (bonus!) so I got right to painting.

I painted the piece a nice gray, distressed and antiqued it. I also painted the insets of the doors with Krylon's Looking Glass spray paint:

It gives the doors a nice reflective quality and looks like old mirrors. Love it! The top of this piece was laminate, so a quick scruff with sandpaper and more spray paint was in order.

At first, I was disappointed with how yucky the top got every time water got on it, but actually it's growing on me. It almost looks like a distressed zinc top now.

Overall, it's a nice little storage piece for the bathroom.

I'll be sharing more Blasts from the Past in the future (and hopefully so new projects) very soon!

Tobacco Cabinet Redo

I'm not sure why this didn't post yesterday, but here it is a day late. I had this little table with a door in my garage forever.  It was given to me by my father-in-law. Here's what it looked like pre-redo:

I always wondered if this little table had a particular purpose, as the entire inside is lined with copper sheeting. I did a little digging and found out it's actually either a smoking stand, tobacco cabinet or cigar humidor. (I'm not sure which, Internet search returned all three descriptions.) Either way, the final result turned out great! I sanded it, painted it dark grey, distressed it (fancy word for sanding the edges), and stained over it. Here's how it turned out:

I love how the distressing turned out on this piece. Here's a shot of the top:

And for anyone wondering, here's how the inside with the copper looks:

So, what do you think? I think this piece turned out great. I have it in my new office uptown.
